About the Job:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for making clients available for physicians for assessments and appointments. Responsible for clerical duties on the nursing unit to support the physicians and staff. Communicates with other care team members as directed by physicians. Reports to nursing staff and therapists any concerning behavior of client disclosed or observed during appointment with physicians. Answers telephones from physicians timely, prints out physician orders for nursing staff, faxes physician orders to pharmacy, as appropriate, maintains client appointment logs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Makes clients available for physicians for assessments and appointments.
  2. Maintains appointments and flow of clients to maximize physicians’ time.
  3. Performs clerical duties on the nursing unit to support the physicians and staff.
  4. Communicates with other care team members, including, but not limited to nursing and therapy, as directed by physicians.
  5. Reports to nursing staff and therapists any concerning behavior of client disclosed or observed during appointment with physicians.
  6. Answers telephone from physicians timely.
  7. Ensures availability to physicians during assigned timeframe.
  8. Prints out physician orders for nursing staff, faxes physician orders to pharmacy, as appropriate, maintains client appointment logs.
  9. Schedules clients for treatment and/or testing.
  10. Responds to health care providers in timely, accurate manner following HIPAA and company policies.
  11. Maintains tablet, phone and computer so that equipment is readily available for physicians.
  12. Keeps phone available after hours for physician calls as needed.
  13. Maintains work environment.
  14. Assists BHAs if time permits.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. Six months or more experience working with the specific population of the facility preferred.
  3. Knowledge of physician visit procedures.
  4. CPR and de-escalation certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
