Job Title: Warehouse Worker
Job Description
The Warehouse Worker plays a key role in supporting daily shipping, receiving, and inventory activities within a food production and distribution environment. This position focuses on safely loading outbound freight, coordinating inbound and outbound trucks, maintaining accurate warehouse records, and upholding strict food safety and GMP standards.
Responsibilities
- Load outbound freight accurately and safely according to established load plans and proper loading patterns.
- Direct inbound and outbound trucks in the yard, coordinating trailer dispatching and gate movements to ensure efficient flow of traffic.
- Ensure proper docking procedures, including wheel chocking and correct trailer positioning, to maintain a safe loading and unloading environment.
- Inspect trucks for food safety compliance, performing sanitary checks and using systems such as Safety Chain to verify standards.
- Record shipments and movements in the Warehouse Management System (WMS) using scanners and other tracking tools.
- Prepare shipments for distribution locations and customers, including packing, picking, and staging of orders.
- Identify and report damages, shortages, and discrepancies in freight and inventory to maintain high inventory accuracy.
- Support inventory counts, cycle counts, and reconciliation activities to ensure accurate stock levels.
- Maintain warehouse organization and cleanliness, keeping aisles, docks, and storage areas neat and compliant with GMP requirements.
- Perform equipment safety checks on forklifts, pallet jacks, and related material handling equipment before use.
- Handle materials efficiently, including loading, unloading, and moving product within the warehouse and production areas.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and company safety policies at all times to protect products, coworkers, and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with a supervisor‑led team to meet shipping deadlines and operational goals.
- Communicate clearly with team members and leadership regarding issues, delays, or safety concerns.
- Use RF scanners and other warehouse technology to support picking, packing, loading, and inventory tasks.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 3 years of forklift experience with current forklift certification, including safe operation in a warehouse or distribution setting.
- Proficiency in shipping and receiving processes, including loading, unloading, and documentation of freight.
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and scanner usage for recording outbound freight and inventory movements.
- Strong materials handling skills, including safe lifting, stacking, and movement of product and pallets.
- Knowledge of load planning and proper loading patterns to maximize trailer space and protect product during transit.
- Ability to coordinate trailer dispatching, yard movements, and gate activities for inbound and outbound trucks.
- Understanding of docking procedures, including wheel chocking and trailer positioning, to support safe operations.
- Experience with inventory accuracy practices, including counts, shortage reporting, and damage identification.
- Knowledge of food safety inspections and sanitary checks within a food manufacturing or GMP‑regulated environment.
- Ability to perform cycle counts, packing, picking, loading, and dispatch‑related tasks with high attention to detail.
- Capability to lift up to 80 pounds and perform physical labor such as standing, bending, and moving materials throughout the shift.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation, labeling, and product handling.
- Effective communication skills to share information, elevate issues, and collaborate with team members.
- Problem‑solving skills to address shipping, inventory, and equipment‑related challenges in a fast‑paced environment.
- Demonstrated teamwork, dependability, and punctuality in prior roles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Experience working in a food production or GMP‑regulated environment, particularly with bakery or food products.
- Familiarity with RF scanners and other warehouse technology for picking, packing, and inventory tasks.
- Comfort working under the guidance of a supervisor while contributing proactively to team goals.
- Strong sense of responsibility for safety, cleanliness, and product quality in a warehouse setting.
