Job Description:

As a Sanitation Worker, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our plant meets USDA standards in production and common areas for cleanliness and food safety. This position requires manual dexterity, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory and Production areas
  • Main Cafeteria
  • Men’s and Women’s Raw and Packaging locker rooms and rest rooms
  • Four staircases
  • Training Room
  • General areas (i.e. main hallway) and trash and recycling room
  • Remove all trash bags from the containers, transport trash to the recycling area and place new bags in the containers.
  • Wipe down the tables and spot mop the floor as needed.
  • Sweep floors, empty trash containers and replace them with new bags.
  • Take all frocks to the laundry.
  • Mop locker room floors, spot check and mop the others as needed.
  • Sweep and mop all restrooms as needed.
  • Replace hand towels and toilet paper as needed.
  • Use good manufacturing practices for food disposal.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workplace.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.
  • Separate trash, recycling, inedible material, expired items, chemicals and any and all other waste material into appropriate areas for proper disposal.
  • Responsible for sorting all recyclable materials into cardboard, plastic and paper.
  • Responsible for baling cardboard and paper for pick up by outside recycling company.
  • Occasionally operate powered pallet jack for transportation of recycled products to pick-up area.
  • Responsible for cleaning and upkeep of the trash/recycle room to meet USDA standards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capability to stand in one place for 80% of the shift (8+ hours per day).
  • Capability to walk throughout department for 20% of the shift (8+ hours per day).
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis.
  • Requires the frequent use of both hands and arms.
  • Capability to bend, twist, and squat as needed throughout the shift (8+ hours per day).
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets for chemicals.
  • Must be able to work in a Safety Sensitive Position.

Working Conditions/Physical Environment:

  • Due to refrigeration that is required for the products, the room temperature is maintained at a temperature between 28 degrees (F) and 34 degrees (F), therefore candidates must be able to work in this environment constantly throughout the shift (8+ hours per day).
  • Exposure to outside temperature and weather conditions apply as needed therefore candidates must be able to work in a wide variety of temperatures and conditions.
  • Due to one of the primary responsibilities of disposing of trash and recycled materials, of which do contain inedible or spoiled materials, candidates must be able to withstand exposure to unfavorable odors.

Equipment and Machinery Used:

  • Plastic packaging, knives, cardboard boxes, tape dispensers, balers, pallets, and other materials necessary to the disposal of products and materials.

Basic Job Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be United States citizen or authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be willing to submit to a drug screen and background check
  • Must be able to read and comprehend English
