Job summary

Hendrickson in a United States manufacturing facility seeks a surface polisher to prepare forged aluminum parts. You will polish surfaces, set up polishers, and verify finish quality per work orders and customer specs.

Role requires basic reading and following instructions, safety focus, and reliable attendance. Training provided; no prior experience required. Warehouse environment with potential exposure to heat and noise.

• Set up polisher with correct belt and dressing wheels to ensure quality polishing.
• Identify defects and remove marks through polishing to meet requirements.
• Gauge polished parts to ensure compliance with customer specs.
• Inspect parts before and after grinding for quality control.
• Maintain daily timekeeping and log hours in the computer system.

Job description

Position Purpose

Position is responsible for preparing the surface of the forged parts according to work instructions, shop orders, or customer specifications.

Essential Functions

• Prepare and/or polish the surface of forged aluminum parts using a combination of powered hand tools or polishing machines;
• Set up polisher using correct belt and dressing wheels to ensure quality polishing;
• Understand the different polishing belts and wheels to obtain proper finish on part;
• Ensure part is properly polished to meet quality requirements;
• Inspect part before and after grinding;
• Identify defects/non-conforming marks in the forged parts and how to remove the defect or mark through polishing;
• Gauge polished parts to ensure polished part remains within customer requirements;
• Understand alloys and different polishing finishes for the parts;
• Work from production order, shop order, and/or direction of supervisor;
• Follow work instructions on part polishing;
• Identify issues with the equipment and notify supervisor and/or maintenance;
• Maintain daily timekeeping and logging in and out of jobs on computer system;
• Understand how to keep count of the parts and when to place parts on belt;

Education and Training

• High School Diploma or GED;
• No experience necessary

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be able to use a gauge, pencil grinder, and polishing wheels;
• Ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions;
• Ability to work under pressure and adhere to schedules;
• Ability to operate hand tools such as spray gun and forge tongs;
• Ability to work safely and keep area clean;
• Demonstrated ability to work well with all levels of the organization;
• Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills;
• Ability to work assigned shift and remain awake and alert during assigned shift is required;
• Reporting to work for assigned shift, maintaining a physical presence and performing assigned work for the duration of assigned shift is required;
• Able to communicate clearly, concisely and achieve intended objectives;
• Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all weather conditions.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand for an 8 hour shift. Position requires frequent twisting, turning, reaching, bending, pulling and pushing. Position occasionally requires walking, climbing, stooping, and crouching. The employee must be able to handle up to 60 lbs on a regular basis throughout the 8 hour shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Working conditions include exposure to extreme temperatures (heat) and humid conditions, dirt, and noise.
