Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Oversee administrative and operational activities of occupational health services.
  • Ensure compliance with medical regulations, including Bloodborne Pathogens and SHARPS.
  • Conduct pre-employment drug testing and medical questionnaires.
  • Maintain confidential medical records for all employees and report on health trends.
  • Provide immediate medical care and stabilize patients during emergencies in the plant.
  • Coordinate with external medical services for continuity of care.
  • Administer health programs and audiometric testing as required by OSHA.
  • Assist departments with return-to-work assessments and accommodations.
  • Collaborate with Safety, HR, and Plant Management on injury prevention.

Job Description

The Plant Nurse plays a critical role within our poultry processing facility, responsible for providing medical care, promoting health and safety practices, and ensuring the well-being of employees within the plant environment. As a Plant Nurse, you will be tasked with handling medical emergencies, conducting health assessments, implementing health programs, and collaborating with management to maintain a healthy and safe work environment.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Overseeand manage the administrative and operational activities of occupational health services:
  • Assure compliance with regulatory requirements related to medical operations, to include Bloodborne Pathogens and SHARPs.
  • Responsible for Pre-employment drug testing and Pre-employment medical questionnaire.
  • Responsible for securing and developing all records, equipment, and programs related to occupational health services, and order medical supplies.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all employees, including treatment plans, medication administration, follow up card, accident reports.
  • Generate reports on injury trends, health assessments, and program effectiveness for management review.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to medical recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Responsible for assuring the appropriate access and utilization of healthcare services:
  • Provide immediate medical care to employees in case of accidents, injuries, or sudden illnesses within the plant premises.
  • Assess and stabilize patients during medical emergencies until advanced medical help arrives.
  • Administer first aid treatments and medications according to established protocols.
  • Coordinate with external medical services when necessary, ensuring seamless transition of care.
  • Provide or manage the required physical evaluation programs and services to meet regulatory requirements, such as OSHA, Department of Transportation:
  • Educates employees on ergonomic issues relating to their job and coordinates with supervisor on job rotation for employees.
  • Administer the company’s Drug-Free Workplace Program.
  • Manage annual audiometric testing and follow-up testing.
  • Provide Human Resources and Plant Management with all accident investigation reports and follow ups.
  • Manage all cases to facilitate productivity, assuring appropriate care and return to work, including workers’ compensation.
  • Includes workers’ compensation, short- term disability cases, Family Medical Leave Act, and Leave of Absences.
  • Assess healthcare needs, then implement and manage healthcare programs to improve health and facilitate return to work, maintain OSHA records/reports and worker medical files.
  • Assist departments with identifying, evaluating, and implementing accommodations and return to work options for workers with restricted duty.
  • Collaborate with Safety Director and Human Resources Manager to develop injury prevention to identify potential workplace hazards.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with Plant Management, Human Resources, and Safety to address health and safety concerns and implement effective solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with employees regarding health-related policies, procedures, and resources available
  • Serve as a liaison between plant and external healthcare providers, fostering positive relationships and ensuring timely access to medical services.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of practice.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Experience in occupational health, emergency care, or industrial nursing preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and electronic health record systems.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and practices.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure during medical emergencies.

Physical Demands:

The Plant Nurse will primarily work within the processing plant environment, which may involve exposure to various hazards, including noise, chemicals, and extreme temperatures. The role may require flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the needs of the facility and its employees.
