Trinity Elms Assisted Living is hiring for 2nd shift Med Tech positions!

  • Full-time & part-time hours!
  • Scheduled hours: 3 pm – 11 pm
  • Pay range $13-16.00 per hr. (optional opt-out)
  • Every other Weekend is Required
  • Applicants must pass a background check and drug screen

Position Purpose/Summary: The purpose of the Medication Technician is to assist in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician and the Health Services Coordinator/Director of Nursing Services. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures, and practices of LSC, and the requirements of North Carolina.

Essential Functions:

1. Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document the administration of medications for residents as prescribed by the physician utilizing the six rights of medication administration.

2. Document all entries in the electronic MAR following LSC procedures and established nursing standards. Follow LSC procedures for documentation of medications that are held, refused, or self-administered by the resident.

3. Promptly notify the nurse of medication errors and near-misses.

4. Ensure medications are properly labeled and follow the labeling practices of LSC and the LSA pharmacy.

5. Be familiar with the meaning and usage of common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms relative to the administration of medications as used by LSC, pharmacists, and physicians.

6. Attend and participate in continuing education programs as assigned. Complete six (6) hours annually of education related to medication administration.

7. Follow LSC procedures regarding drug receipt errors, including notifying the pharmacy and nursing supervisor. Accurately count narcotics with outgoing and incoming shifts.

8. Reflect LSC’s mission, vision, values, and customer service standards in daily interactions.

9. Perform the following procedures if instructed and evaluated by nursing supervisor:

  • Provide subcutaneous injections
  • Perform glucometer checks
  • Collect specimens, take vital signs and obtain weights
  • Perform routine range of motion exercises
  • Assist residents with turning, ambulation, bowel and bladder training, and incontinence care
  • Perform routine skin care, including simple dressing changes
  • Apply TED hose
  • Apply oxygen

Supervisory Responsibilities, if any: As assigned. May be responsible for supervising

Personal Care Aides and CNAs in some locations, depending on level of care provided.

Qualifications

Qualifications (Minimum Job Requirements):

Education: High school diploma or GED.Completion of the required 15-hour training course and clinical competency under the supervision of the Health Services Coordinator or Director of Nursing. Completion of state exam for “Medication Aides in Adult Care Homes” within 90 days of completing clinical competency.

Experience: No previous experience required.

Specific skills/abilities: Successfully demonstrate competency validation under the supervision of a registered nurse employed by LSC.

Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc: Must maintain listing on the Medication Aide Registry with the Center for Aide Regulation and Education.

Preferences:

1. Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.)

2. Personal Care Aide (PCA)

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to

1. Able to lift up to 35 pounds.

2. May require prolonged standing and/or walking during which time objects are transported.

3. May require occasional bending, squatting, or reaching repeatedly.

4. Ambulatory throughout the facility.
