Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician will carry out all duties as defined under the Essential Functions. This role requires strictly following management guidelines and instructions, independent thinking and action, and the ability to work safely and effectively while adapting to changing duties and shifts. The technician must communicate progress to the Maintenance Manager or Supervisor and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
Essential Functions
- Continuously demonstrate mechanical and electrical skills to maintain highest possible plant operating efficiencies.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and maintain all plant equipment and systems to repair or rebuild for efficient operations.
- Rebuild or repair plant vacuum pumps, gearboxes, valves, steam regulating valves, pneumatic cylinder controls, and all other types of pumps in plant operations.
- Repair forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Perform maintenance and preventive maintenance on plant CIP systems, AZO systems, mixing/dryer systems, chemical injection systems, air compressors, boiler systems, city water systems, ammonia systems, packaging, and handling equipment.
- Effectively perform industrial electrical testing and troubleshooting in areas such as 4‑20 milliamps, 12/24/48/120/240/480‑volt circuits, pressure/selector switches, float switches, relays, and high‑voltage control components of plant motors.
- Repair and maintain all types of packaging systems, pressure systems, boiler equipment, process systems, and fixtures in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and/or SensoryEffects® Inc. standards.
- Observe equipment in operations, evaluate performance issues, and make informed decisions on repair/replacement.
- Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled using internal systems and procedures or equipment specifications.
- Fabricate equipment following piping/equipment diagrams and specifications.
- Obtain and maintain required knowledge from manufacturer and equipment manuals.
- Maintain all tools, equipment and work areas in an orderly and neat condition.
- Take all necessary measures to work safely and professionally.
- Assist Engineering/Maintenance personnel on internal plant projects and system installations.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or directed by management or supervision.
- Work with minimum supervision and perform accurate calibrations on all required equipment including PLCs, valves, sensors, etc.
Requirements
- GED or equivalent.
- Proficiency in all described areas of responsibility.
- Pass a written test with a score of at least 75%.
- Pass the DOA within one year of passing the written test.
- Minimum age 18 years.
- Follow written and oral instructions, write clearly, and possess advanced communication skills.
- Team player, self‑disciplined, and able to handle emergency situations.
- Maintain personal cleanliness and follow GMPs as described in company guidelines.
- Perform all duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager or Supervisor.
- Show independent initiative to solve problems.
- Proficient in mechanical rebuilding, including valves, pumps, and major equipment overhauls.
- Troubleshoot and repair defects in plant boilers, city water systems, ammonia and pressure systems, air compressors, canning/packaging, and dryer operations.
- Diagnose and repair problem equipment in all operational areas, including powder conveying systems, heat exchangers, reverse osmosis, dryer systems, and canning/packaging operations.
- Use electrical testing equipment and volt/amp meters effectively.
- Advanced knowledge of industrial electricity and ability to troubleshoot electrical components and machinery malfunctions.
- Rapidly read and understand piping, construction layouts, equipment specifications, troubleshooting charts, procedures, and various diagrams.
- Weld stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel per government and company specifications.
Working Conditions
- Continuous physical activity: climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, hearing, talking, repetitive motion, and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; routine climbing of stairs.
- Operate various equipment such as computers, drafting equipment, and instruments involving scientific meters and measuring devices.
- Must distinguish colors.
- Work in a plant environment with temperatures and noise above ambient level, proximity to high‑speed moving mechanical parts, and exposure to chemicals that are constantly monitored.
- Wear appropriate safety equipment: safety glasses, safety shoes, respirators, gloves, and other protective gear as required.
- May need to work in confined spaces at times.
- Exposure to wet, slippery floors from ingredients and water solutions and live steam and steam‑heated water.
