Position Title: 2nd Shift Maintenance Mechanic
Wage Range: $23-$33.00 Differential: $1.00
Status: Full Time Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Job Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all production and utility systems within the facility. Core equipment includes motors, gearboxes, pneumatic controls, conveying systems, boilers, air compressors, CO₂ or Freon‑based refrigeration units, and plant support infrastructure. Duties include performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing electrical and mechanical failures, monitoring utility system performance, and executing corrective actions to ensure optimal uptime and process reliability. The role requires strict adherence to USDA guidelines, GMP standards, and all facility safety protocols, including LOTO, confined space, and hot work procedures.
Essential Functions
- Reports to Maintenance Supervisor.
- Must work and communicate well with Maintenance, QA, and Operations supervisors.
- Maintain and repair all production equipment, including pumps, tumblers, evaporators, dryers, valves, baggers, injectors, slicers, packaging machines, etc.
- Has a working knowledge of and experience in plant maintenance operations.
- Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
- Inspect mechanical equipment for damage, defects, or wear.
- Test mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Dismantle machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists and hand tools or power tools.
- Disassemble equipment for maintenance or repair. Operate hoists or other moving or lifting equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or performing other preventive maintenance.
- Inspect mechanical components to identify problems.
- Replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts.
- Troubleshoot electrical controls and components, and repair as needed.
- Order and maintain inventories for all parts to service all equipment plant‑wide.
- Communicate with technical support for equipment issues.
- Document all schematic and diagram changes to keep plant records current.
- Work with a minimum amount of supervision in all key areas.
- Report daily work orders and activity reports (all time must be accounted for).
- Required to climb stairs, ladders, and work in congested areas.
- Employee will be subject to temperatures ranging from 0°F to 130°F.
- Ensure all work is performed in a timely fashion and competently.
- Follow all company policies, such as GMP, SQF, and safety rules and procedures.
- Ability to work harmoniously with co‑workers, management, customers, vendors, and employees.
- Familiarity with equipment parts and their proper names.
- Contact technical support at any time for unresolved issues.
- Follow up on pending repairs throughout the plant and communicate with management and the team.
- Drive the team with a positive attitude toward projects.
- Read electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic schematics and blueprints.
- Identify problems and propose solutions that consider food safety and safety guidelines.
- Share knowledge with the team and engage in ongoing training.
- Maintain reliable attendance at work.
- Other duties as assigned by management.

Education and/or Experience
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills; basic computation skills; or 1–3 months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current forklift operator’s license or the ability to acquire and maintain the required certification.
- Minimum three years of experience. High school graduate required. Emphasis in electronics, instrumentation, refrigeration, electrical, and general mechanical training.
- Ability to read and understand written and/or verbal instructions.
Physical Demands
- Sitting/Standing/Walking: The maintenance mechanic will stand for at least two consecutive hours and up to 8–12 hours per day.
- Lifting/Carrying: Lift up to 50 pounds repetitively; occasional lifting above 50 pounds may be required.
- Pushing/Pulling: Frequently push and pull up to 50 pounds repetitively.
- Bending/Stooping: Often bend and stoop.
- Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling: Occasionally squat, kneel, or crawl.
- Twisting/Turning: Often twist and turn while carrying.
- Climbing/Balancing: Occasionally climb or balance.
- Reaching: Frequently reach repetitively.
- Grasping/Manipulating: Frequently grasp and manipulate repetitively.
