Job summary

Burke Porter, An Ascential Technologies Company in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Journeyman Machinist for 2nd shift. You will study blueprints, setup tooling, and select feeds and speeds to produce parts.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Machinist or 3–5 years of skilled machinist experience or apprenticeship.
• Mechanical aptitude and safe working practices.
• Proficient in blueprint reading.
• Ability to read basic math/measurement data.
• Owns basic tools and measuring devices.

Responsibilities

• Study machining instructions to determine operations, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
• Position and secure workpieces and select mounts/tools.
• Set feeds, speeds, depths; verify tool/work-piece relation.
• Verify dimensions with micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Use dial indicators for close tolerances.
• Operate machine with automatic positioning controls.
• Lay out reference lines and machining locations per blueprints.
• Program CNC using Mazatrol and Fanuc G-code with Visi Software.

Description

Responsibilities:

• Studies machining instructions such as job order, blueprint, process sheet, or layout on work piece to determine machining required, sequence of operation, tooling, feed, and speed rate
• Positions and secures work piece to table, angle plate, vise, or chuck and verifies position. Selects and mounts tools.
• Moves controls to set feeds, speeds, and depth of cut, and to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, verifying position visually, with instruments, and by reading dials
• Verifies dimensions of machined work piece with such measuring instruments as micrometers, telescoping gauges, vernier calipers, and dial indicators. Works to close tolerances.
• Uses precision positioning devices such as dial indicators mounted on machine troughs with standard length rods and work to close tolerances
• Operates machine with automatic positioning controls
• Lays out reference lines and machining locations on work piece, according to blueprints
• CNC programming using “Mazatrol” and “Fanuc” G code utilizing Visi Software

Requirements:

• Journey Machinist or 3 to 5 years of experience as skilled machinist or successful completion of the apprenticeship program.
• Mechanical skills and aptitude.
• Proficient in Blueprint reading
• Basic Math and Reading skills. Knowledge of highspeed carbide tooling.
• Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment while complying with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations
• Ability to safely operate an overhead crane and forklift
• Owns tools, measuring devices and small hand tools.

Experience with Mazatrol and Fanuc software preferred

Previous Lathe experience preferred

**Must be able to work 2nd shift hours as well as overtime including weekends as needed**
