Hours: Monday - Friday 2pm - 10:30pm

Job Summary:

The Embedding Lab Assistant is responsible for various duties in the lab, including embedding and assisting in cytology, loading and unloading surgical specimens on processors, changing chemicals in processors and stainers, cleaning and maintaining assigned areas, and handling minimal hazardous waste. Employees must adhere to all company policies and procedures, including regulatory standards such as CAP, CLIA, and OSHA.

Essential Functions:

1. Embedding tissue samples
2. Loading/Unloading processor tissue samples
3. Filing blocks and slides
4. Performing cytology functions as needed
5. Assisting the Histology department
6. Performing daily QC documentation
7. Maintaining equipment and supplies
8. Performing other duties as assigned

Lead Responsibilities:

• All duties listed above
• Supervising in the absence of the Histology Lab Manager
• Assisting in new employee orientation and training
• Updating and maintaining accessioning procedures
• Troubleshooting and problem solving
• Maintaining communication with the Lab Manager

Physical and Mental Demands:

• Lift up to 40 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, 10 lbs routinely
• Exposure to blood, chemicals, hazardous waste, requiring appropriate safety measures

Equipment Used:

• Tissue processors, embedding center, stainers, coverslipper, typical lab equipment, computer

None

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED. Experience levels vary from less than 3 years to 8+ years, as determined by the supervisor.
