Job summary

API Heat Transfer in Buffalo, NY is seeking a 2nd shift fab S/U welder to join an expanding team. You will check material against BOM, perform set‑up, layout, cutting and welding with ASME code qualifications, and ensure quality and safety.

Candidates must pass written competency tests and a series of weld tests. The role offers competitive wage progression, health benefits, PTO, and union pension opportunities with room for development.

Qualifications

• Must pass a written competency skills test at time of interview.
• Candidate will be required to pass a series of weld tests to be hired.
• Must qualify for ASME Section VIII & IX Code Welding requirements using Metallic Arc, Heli-Arc (TIG) and MIG.
• Must be code qualified on welding procedures for carbon steel, stainless steel to carbon steel, and related materials.

Responsibilities

• Check material allocated for fabrication with specs from BOM or drawings.
• Set up operations for layout, cutting, beveling and welding as required.
• Perform layout operations using necessary tools to meet specs.
• Burning, cutting and beveling to verify length, bevel and hole size; remove slag as needed.
• Align fittings from drawings within required tolerances using fixtures and tools.
• Operate coupling and tubesheet welders in the DFT line as needed.
• Maintain safe operation and protect machine surfaces during welding.
• Notify foreman of questionable material and remove defective work.
