Job summary

International Paper (Des Plaines) is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to keep a high-performing plant running on the Des Plaines site. You will diagnose and repair PLCs, analyze I/O and refine HMIs (FactoryTalk or similar), and service hydraulic and pneumatic systems, conveyors, and high/low voltage circuits.

This full-time second shift role offers a competitive hourly wage ($46.54/hr) plus a small shift differential, with a focus on safety, documentation, and reliable equipment

Qualifications

• 3+ years in industrial manufacturing maintenance.
• Hands-on PLC diagnostics and I/O troubleshooting; ability to implement program changeouts.
• Experience with FactoryTalk or comparable HMI systems.
• Proficiency across hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Physical capacity to occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs and frequently stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch/crawl.

Responsibilities

• Execute planned maintenance and repairs to extend equipment life and reliability.
• Triage urgent equipment issues; diagnose root causes and return assets to service quickly.
• Analyze PLC I/O, perform program changeouts, and refine HMI interfaces (FactoryTalk or similar).
• Inspect and repair photo eyes, sensors, limit switches, and solenoids to ensure accurate control.
• Maintain and troubleshoot conveyor systems and line controls for smooth flow.
• Service mechanical components: bearings, chains, sprockets, gearboxes.
• Work confidently with high/low voltage circuits; use a multimeter to pinpoint faults.
• Complete and manage work orders with thorough documentation.
