Job description

2nd Shift Custodian at PH Miller Elementary School

JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Passed physical examination.
  2. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  3. Willing and able to climb a six-foot stepladder and lift forty pounds.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
  2. Shovel, plow, and/or salt walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
  3. Check daily to ensure all exit doors are open, panic bars work properly, and all but one entrance door are locked during building occupancy.
  4. Daily sweep/vacuum classrooms, empty wastebaskets, and clean/disinfect furniture, along with other assigned tasks.
  5. Clean corridors after school each day and/or during the day as needed.
  6. Scrub and disinfect toilet floors daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  7. Wash all windows inside and outside at least twice a year, more if necessary, especially entry doors and surrounding glass.
  8. Keep grounds free from rubbish.
  9. Maintain floors in a clean, attractive condition and good repair.
  10. Clean chalkboards/whiteboards as needed.
  11. Make building repairs under the direction of the Head Custodian/Principal and/or Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.
  12. Report repairs and damages promptly.
  13. Remain on school premises during school hours and when authorized for non-school hours.
  14. Ensure building security by opening and closing the building daily, securing all doors and windows, and turning off unnecessary lights.
  15. Report inventory and requisitions for supplies, equipment, and fuel in advance.
  16. Conduct ongoing maintenance and repairs.
  17. Move furniture or equipment as required.
  18. Follow laws and procedures for waste disposal.
  19. Perform summer maintenance activities such as floor cleaning, lighting maintenance, painting, lawn work, and weed trimming.
  20. Demonstrate cooperation, courtesy, and willingness to improve conditions involving staff, parents, and students.
  21. Attend work regularly, dress appropriately, request approval for time off, and report on time.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
