Position Title: Custodian
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Responsibilities and Evaluation

• Responsible for the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the assigned building.
• Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per BCS Performance and Assessment Procedures.
• Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1.

Minimum Requirements

• Possess or willing to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class B), with air brake, school bus, and passenger endorsements.
• Team-oriented with effective communication skills.
• Willing to work various shifts or be called out after hours.
• Subject to criminal background checks and periodic driver’s license checks.

Essential Functions

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, furniture, floors, and wastebaskets.
• Assist with setup for meetings, classrooms, and events.
• Perform floor stripping, cleaning, buffing, and carpet shampooing.
• Use and maintain cleaning equipment and tools.
• Wash walls, windows, and equipment; use ladders as needed.
• Secure buildings, check for unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights.
• Follow chemical and supply usage instructions.
• Remove snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs.
• Move furniture and equipment as needed.
• Attend to emergencies and report maintenance needs.
• Support school policies, safety regulations, and act as substitute bus driver when needed.

Secondary Functions

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian or Principal.

Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
• Ability to make independent judgments, develop solutions, and establish effective relationships.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Work in assigned school building.
• Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift items of 50 lbs. regularly and 100 lbs. occasionally.
• Able to hear and speak clearly.
