Position Title: Custodian
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Responsibilities and Evaluation
- Responsible for the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the assigned building.
- Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per BCS Performance and Assessment Procedures.
- Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1.
Minimum Requirements
- Possess or willing to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class B), with air brake, school bus, and passenger endorsements.
- Team-oriented with effective communication skills.
- Willing to work various shifts or be called out after hours.
- Subject to criminal background checks and periodic driver’s license checks.
Essential Functions
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, furniture, floors, and wastebaskets.
- Assist with setup for meetings, classrooms, and events.
- Perform floor stripping, cleaning, buffing, and carpet shampooing.
- Use and maintain cleaning equipment and tools.
- Wash walls, windows, and equipment; use ladders as needed.
- Secure buildings, check for unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights.
- Follow chemical and supply usage instructions.
- Remove snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs.
- Move furniture and equipment as needed.
- Attend to emergencies and report maintenance needs.
- Support school policies, safety regulations, and act as substitute bus driver when needed.
Secondary Functions
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian or Principal.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Ability to make independent judgments, develop solutions, and establish effective relationships.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Work in assigned school building.
- Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift items of 50 lbs. regularly and 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Able to hear and speak clearly.
