Job summary

Teaticket School in Falmouth, MA is seeking a 2nd shift custodian to maintain a safe and clean school environment. The 2:30 pm–11:00 pm shift runs year-round, with first shift during school vacations and summer.

The role requires reading basic operating instructions, health certification, and the ability to use online maintenance systems. Custodians are emergency responders and report to the Head Custodian with duties assigned by at the Principal.

Qualifications

• High school diploma preferred.
• Certificate of good health signed by a licensed physician, upon hire.
• Ability to read basic operating instructions and reports.
• Ability to use online/technology systems to operate maintenance equipment, including furnace, tools, alarm systems, emails, online training, etc.
• Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of tasks assigned.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily tasks in cleaning and maintaining a school building and surrounding area to ensure a healthy, safe, and clean environment for its students, faculty and visitors.
• Usually works on a shift basis with crew or supervisor.
• All custodians assigned to a school report directly to their respective Head Custodian.
• Report any building issues to your head custodian to ensure the best interests of the students’ safety and health, and their enriched learning experience.
• Presence in the cafeteria for all lunch periods.
• Follows orders on what is to be done and in sequence of custodial operations in connection with any of the following typical duties: Sweeps, mops and dusts floors, stairs, classrooms, shop and assembly area, lavatories, furniture and outside steps. Collects trash, empties wastebaskets, fills barrels; checks roof for debris; washes windows, glass doors, blinds and walls; takes care of vending machine supplies; washes, strips, waxes and polishes floors by powered equipment; checks all lavatories, cleans fixtures, replaces soap and paper products; vacuum cleans rugs, carpets, and drapes; removes stains and spillage; remove ice/snow from walks and steps; checks for fire hazards and water damage; replaces broken lights and damaged hardware, temporarily boards up broken windows; does routine cleaning of boiler room, equipment and floor area; occasional lifting and moving of furniture.
• Custodians are considered emergency personnel and are expected to report to work if called in for said situations. These situations could include snow removal, water leak cleanup and any other emergency situation that may occur.
• Such other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal, Head Custodian, or Shift Leader.
