Job summary

BlueGreen Alliance Inc. is seeking a Boring Mill Operator on a second shift. You will set up and operate a manual boring mill, read blueprints, and ensure quality while meeting production schedules. The role includes a $3.00/hour shift differential and four 10-hour shifts from Monday through Thursday.

The position requires GED and machining fundamentals training, with BOCEs experience preferred. Overtime and minimal travel may be required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Sets up and operates the boring mill to machine castings and fixtures.

Job Title: Boring Mill Operator

Reports To: Manufacturing Supervisor

Level of Work: I

Position Summary

Working from blueprints, sketches, and oral or written instructions, sets up and operates a manual boring mill.

Shift Information: This is a second shift position scheduled for four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday. A $3.00/hour shift differential is provided.

Key Results Areas by level of work

Level I: Quality – Complete and accurate work performed efficiently

Production quality and efficiency using appropriate tools and equipment, qualified to perform special processes as needed

• Sets up and operates machine for boring, turning, and facing castings, forging, jigs, fixtures, etc.
• May be required to improvise holding fixtures when standard fixtures do not serve.
• Sets feeds, speeds, cut depth, and select tools.
• Makes allowances for metal characteristics, temperature effect and shrinkage.
• Performs in-process inspection using a variety of measuring tools and indicators.
• Size, weight and location of work may require use of hand and power operated machine handling equipment.
• Consistently meets customer’s quality requirements and expectations.
• Will be required to supply several personal tools such as square, scale, tape, hammer and wrench.

Follow instructions – oral and/or written

• Can properly read all blueprint and work instructions.
• Will provide instruction and guidance to employees assigned to assist and as required, will participate in training of welders and other employees of the department of lesser classification.
• Performs other duties as assigned by their supervisor, or his/her designate.

Safety & housekeeping

• Work may require use of scaffold, ladders, forklift, and/or scissor lift.
• Work may require the use of a crane to move part.
• Maintains a clean work area with no clutter.
• Practices safety at all times while at work.
• Follows safety policies and procedures and speaks up when others are non-compliant.
• Wears all safety equipment for area of work.

Requirements

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.

Education and Training

• High school GED Required
• Trade school/BOCES in Machining Fundamentals

Experience

• BOCES training or its equivalent in progressive Machine Shop assignments

Other

• Must be willing to work overtime as required.
• Minimal travel may be required
