Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of machine operation experience.
• Prior book manufacturing equipment experience preferred, such as print binding or finishing.
• Must read and understand written documents and take direction in Basic English.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out when cleaning or maintaining equipment.
• Load materials, prep jobs for converting, and follow standard work.
• Operate production equipment for binding, laminating, cutting, and related processes.
• Communicate process changes and equipment failures, in writing or verbally.
• Monitor product quality and report variations to the manager.
• Participate in Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
• Align work practices with DIY values.

Entry Level (band 1): $16.00 - 20.05 per hour

Intermediate (band 2): $20.05 - $24.51 per hour

Very experienced operators with direct printing/binding experience may be eligible for higher-level bands

Available Shifts

• 2nd Shift, Monday through Friday 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM
• This is a 5-day, 40-hour work week with occasional overtime as business requires

Responsibilities/Tasks

• Follow all safety procedures at all times, including lock-out/tag-out procedures, any time the equipment is being cleaned or maintained.
• Follow standard work; retrieve and load materials; and prep jobs for converting.
• Operate production equipment for one or more processes, including printing, laminating, cutting, end sheet fabrication, perfect binding, case making, casing binding, and associated support equipment.
• Communicate orally or in writing about process changes and equipment failures.
• Monitor the quality of the product and report all variations to the manager.
• Participate in Lean and Continuous improvement events and initiatives.
• Work in a manner that is in alignment with DIY's values.

Requirements

Educational and Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of machine operation experience.
• Prior book manufacturing equipment experience, such as working with print binding or finishing, is preferred.

Special Skills Required

• Language – Must be able to take direction and communicate in Basic English as well as read and understand written documents.
• Math – Must be able to use and understand simple mathematics, using addition, subtraction, fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of the Standard/Imperial measuring system is required, and knowledge of the metric system is a plus.
• Understanding and use of basic measuring instruments is required, including micrometers, digital calipers, and tape measures.
• Have reasonable organizational skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to earn pallet jack certification with training provided by DIY.

Physical Demands

• This position requires standing/walking for the full 8+ hour shift.
• The work involves extended periods of repetitive motion.
• Walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
