Job summary

Liberty Packaging in Phoenix, AZ is hiring a 2nd Shift Assistant Machine Operator I to support machine operators, set up orders, perform quality checks, stack orders, and communicate issues to the team. The role may also involve assisting in finishing tasks such as gluers, stitchers, slitter, and saw operation.

This full-time position reports to a Production Supervisor at our Phoenix manufacturing facility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Ability to read and follow detailed work instructions.
• Willingness to overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setup of orders per customer specs and prep tools.
• Support quality checks by inspecting articles during production.
• Monitor production metrics for progress, quality, and downtime.
• Communicate equipment issues and assist troubleshooting.
• Assist with minor repairs with maintenance team.
• Maintain clean, safe work area and follow safety procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

As a 2nd Shift Assistant Machine Operator I with Liberty Packaging, you will contribute to the growth of our business by being a key player in safely producing quality corrugated products for our customers. You will work within a small group as an assistant operator; in this role, you will support machine operators to maximize machine efficiency by assisting with setting up orders correctly, performing quality checks, stacking orders, and communicating issues. In some locations, the Assistant Machine Operator I roles are also occasionally asked to assist in operating finishing machines / tasks (gluers, stitchers, slitter, and saw machine operation).

This full-time position reports directly to a Production Supervisor and is located at our Phoenix, AZ manufacturing facility.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Supportmachineoperationbyassisting with the setup ofordersaccordingto customer specifications,followingorder readinessprocessofefficientlypreparingtheright toolsto complete thejob.
• Assistmachineoperators duringquality checksbyinspectinga first article, andarticles throughout the orderto identifyissues,ensuringquality product,along withmonitoringequipment and raw materials.
• Support the operator in monitoringproductionmetricstoaccuratelytrackprogressof production rates, quality, maintenanceneeds,anddowntime.
• Proactively communicateissues with equipment toappropriate leaders,and assist withtroubleshooting,and problem solvingto maximize overall equipment efficiencyand minimize downtime.
• Intermittentlyassist with minor repairs to equipmentin partnership with maintenance team.
• Maintain a clean and organized work areabyfollowingpost ordercleaning process.
• Follow plant safety processes and procedures outlined forthemachine center.
• Other duties, as assigned.

Required Education, Experience And Skills

• High School diploma orGEDequivalentfrom an accredited institutionor 1+ years manufacturingor comparableexperience inplaceof education.
• Previous experienceapplyingmathskillssuch asaddition, subtraction,multiplication,and division.
• Previous experience reading,following,and/orcompleting detailed work instructions.
• Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidaysas required.

Preferred Education, Experience And Skills

• Experience reading a tape measureto within 1/16” measurement.
• Experience withcomputerskills such as typing, printing, and data entry.
• Experience within the corrugated industry.
• Experience withoperational excellence orcontinuous improvement programs – Lean 6 Sigma, Kaizen Events.

Compensation & Benefits

The starting pay rate for this position is $17.50 per hour plus $1.00 hourly shift differential. The compensation posted is the anticipated pay for the position at the time of the posting. We may pay above or below posted amount based on several factors, including, but not limited to education and/or certifications, skills, experience, or work location. Some positions may qualify for additional compensation in the form of bonuses.
