The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, attractive, and comfortable environment for students and employees. This position performs general housekeeping, cleaning, and light maintenance duties throughout an assigned school facility. Hours: 3pm-11:30pm with weekends and holidays Pay: $20.52 Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform custodial duties within an assigned building or designated area according to district standards.
- Clean and disinfect classrooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, stairways, locker rooms, and other assigned areas.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and disinfect floors and carpets.
- Operate and properly maintain custodial equipment, including:
- Walk-behind and riding floor scrubbers
- I-mops
- Vacuums
- Carpet extractors
- Other cleaning equipment and hand tools
- Properly mix and use cleaning chemicals according to safety procedures.
- Dust furniture, windowsills, window frames, ledges, high surfaces, equipment, and other areas.
- Clean interior and exterior windows, doors, mirrors, and sills.
- Empty wastebaskets and transport trash and waste to designated disposal areas.
- Restock restroom supplies and maintain properly stocked custodial closets.
- Identify and report maintenance or repair issues within assigned areas.
- Assist with setting up and taking down tables, chairs, bleachers, and other equipment for school functions.
- Assist with snow removal and sanding sidewalks and steps as needed.
- Assist with stripping and waxing floors.
- Assist with moving furniture and other items as needed.
- Manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
- Follow all safety procedures and use equipment and chemicals properly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous custodial or housekeeping experience is helpful but not required.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment, hand tools, ladders, and other equipment.
- Ability to use cleaning chemicals safely and properly.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to follow standard safety precautions.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to regularly walk, stand, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders.
- Must be able to use hands and arms to operate cleaning equipment and tools.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and hear instructions.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
- Position may require working both indoors and outdoors.
Work Environment
- School/facility environment with moderate noise levels.
- May occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, cleaning chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Must be comfortable working around students, employees, and other school personnel while maintaining a professional and safe environment.
