Job summary

Benton Community School Corporation (BCSC) is seeking a Special Education Bus Aide to provide direct supervision and support to an assigned student with disabilities during transportation.   • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks and district-required training.

Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous one-to-one supervision of an assigned student during transportation.
  • Assist the student with safely boarding and exiting the bus using established procedures and adaptive equipment, when applicable.
  • Ensure seat belts, safety vests, harnesses, car seats, wheelchairs, or other safety equipment are properly secured.
  • Support the student's physical, behavioral, communication, and sensory needs during transportation.
  • Implement approved behavior support strategies while maintaining a calm, positive, and respectful environment.
  • Assist the bus driver in maintaining a safe and orderly bus environment.
  • Observe and report concerns related to the student's health, safety, behavior, or transportation needs to the Director of Transportation, Director of Special Programs, and appropriate school personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and BCSC policies.
  • Participate in required district training, including emergency evacuation procedures, student-specific training, CPR/First Aid (if required), and other professional development.
  • Complete required documentation, incident reports, and communication logs accurately and promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with bus drivers, special education staff, administrators, therapists, and parents to support student success.
  • Follow all BCSC transportation policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation or the Director of Special Programs.

Position Summary

The Special Education Bus Aide provides direct supervision and support to an assigned student with disabilities during transportation to and from school. The bus aide is responsible for ensuring the student's safety, well-being, and successful transportation experience while working collaboratively with transportation staff, special education personnel, and families. The aide implements transportation accommodations identified through the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) and/or Case Conference Committee (CCC) recommendations.
