Position: Special Education Teacher

To Whom Responsible: Building Administrator Director of Special Programs

For Whom/What Responsible: The daily instruction of special services students.

Qualifications: Degree - minimum of Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Certificate - Missouri teaching certificate in the area of Special Education.

Experience: Prefer experience in classroom teaching as well as special education experience.

Primary Responsibilities: To provide a quality instructional program for special education students; To complete teaching duties necessary to the district's educational program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
PROGRAM OPERATION
  • Prepares for classroom instruction.
  • Implements a variety of effective teaching techniques.
  • Participates in the development of Individual Education Plans which are appropriate to the students abilities and needs.
  • Provides for individual differences.
  • Tailors instruction to fit the learning objectives identified for special needs students.
  • Implements instructional objectives effectively.
  • Demonstrates competent knowledge of subject matter.
  • Uses a variety of materials.
  • Uses instructional time effectively.
  • Expects to motivate students.
  • Communicates effectively with students.
  • Provides evaluative feedback to students.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
  • Organizes classroom to promote learning.
  • Manages student behavior constructively.
  • Provides modifications in discipline policy for ED students as needed through the Individual Education Plan.
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with students.
  • Demonstrates patience, respect and understanding for students.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with staff.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with parents.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates in professional growth activities.

  • Follows the policies and procedures of the school district.
  • Assumes out of class responsibilities.

  • Supervises volunteers, paraprofessionals, or student interns as assigned.

  • Assists with the identification process of special services students.
  • Develops Diagnostic Summaries in the manner established by the District.
  • Follows special education process and procedure as outlined in the District Compliance Plan.
  • Provides information needed for all state and federal reports.
  • Conducts self at all times as a representative of the school.
  • Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

A standard teaching contract is for 178 days; extended or part time contracts are prorated from 178 days. Compensation is according to the teacher salary schedule as established annually by the Board of Education. All other employee benefits are according to the total FTE of employment for the individual.

EVALUATION

Performance of this position will be evaluated according to board policies and the Warrensburg R-VI School District adopted model of Performance Based Teacher Evaluation.
