Job summary

North Hudson Academy seeks a passionate Art Teacher to join our full-time team in North Bergen, NJ. You will inspire students from preschool through transition-age programs with hands-on art, supporting diverse learning needs in a New Jersey DOE-approved private special education setting.

Responsibilities include planning lessons aligned to IEP goals, collaborating with therapists and teachers, and documenting progress.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Valid New Jersey Art Teacher Certification (Art K-12) required.
• Preferred - Art Therapist Certifications (LPAT or LAAT).
• Experience working with students with disabilities, behavioral needs, or Autism Spectrum Disorder preferred.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and create meaningful learning experiences for diverse learners.
• Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Must meet all licensure, endorsement, and assignment requirements established by the NJDOE.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging visual arts instruction aligned with student IEP goals and educational standards.
• Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages creativity and self-expression.
• Adapt art lessons and materials to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students.
• Utilize a variety of artistic mediums and techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and digital art when appropriate.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and related service providers to support student growth.
• Maintain art supplies, equipment, and classroom organization.
• Assess student progress and maintain required documentation and records.
• Participate in parent meetings, conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings as needed.
• Support school-wide events, art showcases, and student exhibitions.
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and other school activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by School Administration

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
• Valid New Jersey Art Teacher Certification (Art K-12) required and/or Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of the Handicapped Certifications
• Preferred - Art Therapist Certifications (LPAT - Licensed Professional Art Therapist or LAAT - Licensed Associate Art Therapist)
• Experience working with students with disabilities, behavioral needs, or Autism Spectrum Disorder preferred
• Ability to differentiate instruction and create meaningful learning experiences for diverse learners
