Job summary

The Kansas City School District is seeking a Part‑Time Site Based Athletic Director for Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri.

Provide leadership for the athletic program, align goals with KCMSD guidelines, and ensure compliance with MSHSAA standards.

You will supervise coaches, participate in interviews, communicate with the District Athletic Department, and support athletic programming across all activities.

Qualifications

  • Must be employed as a teacher or administrator in the school in which the candidate applies.
  • Must hold a valid teacher’s certificate and be contracted by the KCMSD BOE for the school year as a full‑ or part‑time teacher.
  • Must have at least 3 years of athletic administrative experience.
  • Must fulfill 8 contact hours of professional development: 4 hours of district level meetings, 3 hours of school level meetings, and 1 hour of outside meetings.
  • Knowledge of the overall operation of an athletic program.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • In progress for or completion of a graduate degree with an emphasis in Sports Administration, Public Administration, or a similar field.

Job Description

Position Summary: Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of the specific sport coached.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a program that ensures a cooperative, supportive, and participative environment for all students, coaches, faculty and the community based on KCMSD Athletic Department guidelines.
  • Provide proactive, positive leadership emphasizing the physical, psychological, and social benefits of interscholastic athletics.
  • Create short‑ and long‑range goals for the school’s athletic program that align with the school’s academic program, culture, and KCMSD goals.
  • Ensure compliance of the program with MSHSAA standards.
  • Check and ensure student‑athlete eligibility meets MSHSAA standards on a weekly basis.
  • Update MSHSAA website for student‑athlete eligibility.
  • Answer transfer requests from MSHSAA for student‑athletes transferring to/from other institutions.
  • Supervise and evaluate all athletic coaches in the building.
  • Participate in the interviewing process for coaches.
  • Communicate with the District Athletic Department regarding on‑site issues and successes.
  • Participate in monthly District Athletic Department meetings concerning league business and extended scheduling.
  • Attend all home athletic contests and/or appoint administrative personnel to attend and supervise home athletic contests.
  • Obtain advertising, information, printing, and selling of programs or varsity contests (may assign a designee).
  • Ensure facilities are game‑day ready.
