Job summary

Buckeye Elementary School District is hiring a Paraprofessional A - Self-Contained (Connections) to support special education instruction in a self-contained setting. You will assist with IEP implementation, behavior monitoring, and helping students with personal needs.

The position requires AZ DPS IVP clearance, a high school diploma, and First Aid/CPR; bilingual skills are preferred. Salary is based on district schedule for 10-month non-exempt staff with benefits after probation.

Qualifications

  • Must obtain and maintain a AZ DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (required).
  • First Aid/CPR Certification and AED is required upon hire or obtain within 30 days (in-person hands-on training/certificate).
  • Ability to speak fluent Spanish (preferred).
  • Obtain and maintain certification in Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention (preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills (written or oral).
  • Experience working with school-age children.
  • Experience working with children with severe needs.
  • Professional development history showing knowledge concerning students with severe needs.
  • Experience with reading intervention classroom is a plus.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Word and Excel and student data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher with instructions and classroom materials and setup.
  • Provide services in regular classrooms, ESL, special needs, side-by-side or other special education settings.
  • Assist with playground, lunchroom, lavatory, bus area supervision and transportation as required.
  • Inclusion support for student participation in regular classrooms.
  • Aids students with personal hygiene and toilet training.
  • Assist OT and SLP with teaching students when required.
  • Provide a safe environment for students, and supervise in various settings.
  • Maintain and organize teaching materials and student work; plan daily activities.
  • Observe and document student progress and report to supervisor.

Job Description

Purpose: Assist special education teachers with individualized instruction, implementation of each child’s individualized educationprogram (IEP), monitoring student behavior, and assist students with personal needs, including, but not limited to toiletry, feeding, adaptive equipment, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist teacher with instructions, creation of classroom materials and classroom set up
  • Paraprofessionals may be required to provide services in regular classrooms, ESL, special needs, side-by-side or other special education settings.
  • All Paraprofessionals may have duties in playground supervision, lunchroom and lunch area supervision, lavatory supervision, bus area supervision, and in transportation of District students as required.
  • Assist and accompany student for inclusion in regular classroom
  • Aids students with personal hygiene, including changing diapers and assisting with toilet training.
  • Assist students in proper use of eating utensils and cafeteria behavior
  • Assist occupational therapist and speech therapist with teaching student as required.
  • Provide a safe environment for special education students in which to learn
  • Works with students on a variety of subjects or in one-on-one or small group instruction
  • Monitor and supervise students in classroom, playground and cafeteria settings, using PBIS principles
  • Under the direction of the supervising teacher, prepare instructional materials and visual aids; photo copy materials and documents
  • Under the direction of the supervising teacher, prepare workstations or learning centers for children to work on daily lessons
  • Assist students with learning reading, writing and math skills
  • Assist in administering District and State tests as needed
  • Assess student needs and modify lessons to provide appropriate help; document student progress
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure lessons are appropriate for student
  • Organize and maintain teaching materials
  • Organize and file student work; plan for daily activities to meet specific needs of each child
  • Move about as needed to observe activity and to maintain safety, order and control at all duty stations.
  • Maintains adequate and legible records concerning his/her students work with teacher direction.
  • Assist in all safety programs, drills and evacuation proceedings as required.
  • Report to your instructional supervisor and/or school health center personnel all student medical and safety issues which you observe.
  • Attend classes, in-services and seminars as needed to improve knowledge and skills and to keep current with the latest in services equipment, material and functions as it pertains to the District’s needs.
  • Practice good public relations techniques with students, staff, administration and parents, demonstrating a cordial and friendly manner.
  • Participate in the Medicaid Reimbursement program which includes maintaining monthly logs on eligible students; attending scheduled training.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • May oversee class as required in teacher’s absence
  • Perform other duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

FY: 2026-2027

Non-Exempt, 10 month position, 186 days

Base Salary: $17.09/hr + $0.25 per year of equivalent experience

35.50 hours/wk.

Participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS)

Benefits: 60 day probation period for benefits to begin the following benefits:
