Job Description
TITLE: Teacher Assistant
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College transcript showing a degree was earned.
- College transcript showing at least 48 college level courses completed (CCS does not count remedial/pre‑requisite courses).
- College transcript showing at least 24 college level courses completed (CCS does not count remedial/pre‑requisite courses) plus WorkKeys Assessment with passing scores in: Workplace Documents (Reading) score 4+, Business Writing score 3+, Applied Mathematics score 4+.
Must obtain and maintain a CDL Bus license and drive a bus when called upon.
Working knowledge of effective methods for dealing with children.
Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
REPORTS TO: Principal and Assigned Teacher(s)
JOB GOAL: To support the teacher in the teaching‑learning process for students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic Assistance
- Provides group and individualized instruction as prescribed.
- Demonstrates instructional activities.
- Checks and corrects students’ work during lessons and keeps them on task.
- Praises and reinforces student achievement.
- Reports student progress to teacher.
Instructional Preparation/Support
- Arranges classroom furnishings and equipment; prepares visual aids and duplicate materials.
- Reorganizes materials at day’s end.
- Serves as proctor during testing; scores papers as instructed.
- Distributes and collects instructional materials.
- Attends workshops.
Report and Records
- Checks and reports attendance.
- Enters data in health record, records student behavior, files data per regulatory requirements.
Monitoring Student Behavior
- Supervises students in classroom and other locations.
- Creates and distributes awards for positive behavior.
- Promotes student self‑esteem; teaches citizenship, social skills and respect.
- Reconciles minor student conflicts.
- Participates in development of discipline and policy.
- Disciplines misbehavior through approved methods.
- Reports discipline problems to teacher or principal.
- Reports significant changes in student behavior.
Bus Operations
- Obtains and maintains CDL bus license; completes pre‑trip and post‑trip inspection.
- Drives bus when called upon while maintaining proficiency and safety.
- Maintains bus route schedule.
- Maintains discipline; reports undisciplined students.
- Discharges students at authorized stops; transports authorized students only.
- Complies with traffic regulations and safety regulations.
- Reports delays and accidents.
- Clears interior of bus.
Serves as a team player and role model; demonstrates commitment to continuous quality improvement and core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing fairness.
Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must obtain a CDL when requested for driving a school bus.
- Must communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
- Must possess finger dexterity and perform life operational functions such as kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.
- Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
- Must obtain a CDL when requested for driving a school bus.
Position Type: Full‑Time
Salary: $2,438–$3,450 Per Month
