Job summary

The Brooks Family YMCA in Charlottesville seeks an Assistant Counselor for the After School Program. You will assist a Lead Counselor to provide a safe, quality experience for elementary-aged children, helping with daily enrichment activities, homework support, and health & wellness activities at the school sites.

This part-time role runs 1:45pm–5:30pm, Monday through Friday, at Charlottesville elementary schools. A free YMCA membership is provided to counselors.

Qualifications

• At least 16 years of age.
• Previous experience working with children preferred.
• Experience with diverse populations preferred.
• 24 hours of in-service training annually.
• All required trainings must be completed before start date.
• First Aid & CPR certifications within the first 30 days.
• Must pass background check and TB test.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Counselor in supervising the group of children.
• Lead daily enrichment activities and health & wellness activities.
• Provide homework support and learning assistance.
• Maintain a safe, clean program site and equipment.
• Communicate with parents about child progress and needs.
• Support day-to-day operations and adhere to licensing standards.

The Assistant Counselor will be responsible for aiding the Lead Counselor in providing direction to a group of elementary-aged children.
