Job summary

The Somerville Public Schools are seeking a part-time After School/Out of School Time staff member to support care for students in grades Pre-K through 8. The role involves leading activities, supervising children, and maintaining a safe, engaging environment across multiple sites after dismissal and during early release days.

Responsibilities include implementing provided curricula, collaborating with the Site Coordinator and OST Director, and promoting positive relationships with families

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year experience working with school age children including three months supervised experience with school age children.

Responsibilities

• Travel to multiple sites as needed depending where a substitute is needed.
• Supervise and interact with children in a positive supportive manner.
• Assist in maintaining a relaxed, supportive atmosphere in the classroom.
• Discipline children in accordance with Community Schools Staff Handbook.
• Follow program health and safety procedures as stated in Staff Handbook.
• Assist in maintaining classroom environment including daily set up and clean up.
• Build positive relationships with families and co-workers.
• Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Follow Lead Teacher’s daily schedule
• Travel to multiple sites as needed depending where a substitute is needed
• Supervise and interact with children in a positive supportive manner
• Assist in maintaining a relaxed, supportive atmosphere in the classroom
• Discipline children in accordance with Community Schools Staff Handbook
• Follow program health and safety procedures as stated in Staff Handbook

Substitutes will lead an academic/homework block, enrichment block, and free block between 2:35pm (1:45 Pre-K) and 5:30 or 1:00 (12:00 Pre-K) and 5:30 on early release day under the direction of the Site Director or Assistant Site Director The substitute may also assist a lead teacher or support students individually if needed.

• Mobility: Frequent walking, standing, and navigating stairs.

• Stationary Tasks: Remaining in a stationary position (sitting/standing) for long periods.
