Job Summary
The Communications Team sits within the Partnerships and Communications Unit in the Strategy, Performance and Change Directorate. The team has four functions: External Communications, Internal Communications and Engagement, Strategic Communications; and Editorial and Design. We require a Campaigns Adviser to support the achievement of the following DBS’ strategic objectives:
- To be visible, trusted and influential
- People-focused
In this role we are looking for an Campaigns Adviser to work with internal and external stakeholders to research, develop, implement and evaluate creative campaigns for internal and external audiences according to DBS priorities and as directed by the External Communication Manager and the Internal Communications Manager.
Job Description
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
- To research and develop measurable campaigns which support the Disclosure and Barring Service’s strategy and objectives and which maximise opportunities to develop engagement and transparency with employees and with our partners.
- To utilise a full range of media including print, photography and video as well as online engagement to target campaign messages, communicate with key audiences (including external and internal) and achieve maximum impact and response.
- To be guardians for the DBS’ brand by ensuring all campaigns meet the agreed guidelines.
- To meet with internal and external partners and create working campaign briefs and plans which are deliverable and measurable.
- To work collaboratively with other members of the team to create and deliver content including digital, graphics, video, and audio as required.
- To co-ordinate the production of corporate publications, including researching, copywriting and managing the design and print of internal and external publications, as well as reports and copy for DBS website and intranet.
- To take responsibility for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of all internal and external campaign activity, identifying and implementing improvements as required.
- To attend meetings and conferences as necessary to identify suitable information to communicate to internal and external stakeholders.
- To be prepared to work flexibly and to change priorities and workloads quickly and effectively dependent upon the requirements of the role.

Person specification
Essential Criteria
- Ability to produce engaging copy for different channels.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Proven experience of working in a challenging external facing communications role, with a demonstrable track record in media relations, public relations and digital media.
- Experience of delivering communications plans and campaigns
- Knowledge and experience of engaging with national, regional and specialist media
- Excellent copywriting, creative writing and verbal communication skills, including ability to adapt style depending upon audience and occasion
- Knowledge and understanding of content management systems and social media scheduling tools.
Desirable Criteria
- Ability to lead, inspire, support and develop others
- A degree in Journalism/Public Relations/Communications or similar qualification
- Experience of appropriately utilising AI technology to support insight-driven plans and campaigns
- Membership of a relevant professional body, such as CIPD
