The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150+ elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. The Teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago. As a teacher in a Catholic school, the Teacher acts as a representative of the Catholic Church to the students, both as a role model and through various responsibilities. The Teacher is a ministerial employee, representing the Church and communicating its message to the children entrusted to the School’s care.

The Teacher is hired by and accountable to the principal. The Teacher agrees to abide by the policies of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the local school, cooperating with staff to promote Catholic education. The Teacher represents the Archbishop of Chicago, delivering religious teachings and the doctrines of the Catholic Church at the local level.

St. Luke School, located in River Forest, seeks a passionate and dedicated Spanish teacher to join our community. The ideal candidate will foster a positive learning environment, support student growth, and contribute to students’ academic, spiritual, and social development. Responsibilities include planning and delivering Spanish lessons for K-8 students, assessing progress, managing classroom behavior, and collaborating with staff and parents. Candidates should love teaching Spanish and be committed to student success.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

As a professional educator, the Teacher will:

  • Teach in accordance with Catholic doctrinal and moral teachings
  • Serve as a role model for religious formation and as a representative of the Catholic Church
  • Align with the religious and educational mission, philosophy, objectives, and policies of the Catholic school
  • Complete required Catholic identity formation training and professional development
  • Participate in religious activities and ceremonies as directed
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, colleagues, and principal
  • Attend professional development and staff meetings
  • Perform assigned teaching duties and maintain accurate records
  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Participate in performance reviews and uphold confidentiality
  • Represent the school positively at events and in the community

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

  • Practicing Catholic (preferred, required for religion teachers)
  • Must meet safe environment compliance
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid state licensure (preferred but not required)
  • Complete Catholic identity formation training

Applicants must upload transcripts, resume, licensure (if applicable), and references to be considered. The salary range is $37,000 - $67,000 for lay teachers and $34,000 - $61,000 for religious teachers, based on experience and qualifications.
