Role Overview

The Teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The Teacher acts as a representative of the Catholic Church to the students and is accountable to the principal, agreeing to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

General Responsibilities

As a professional educator in a Catholic school, the Teacher will:

  • Teach and act in accordance with Catholic doctrinal and moral teachings.
  • Act as a role model for the religious formation of students.
  • Know, teach, and act consistently in accordance with the religious and educational mission of the Catholic school.
  • Complete required Catholic identity formation training and professional development.
  • Lead and/or participate in religious instruction and activities as directed.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and principal.
  • Participate in professional development programs required by the Archdiocese.
  • Perform teaching duties as assigned by the principal.
  • Attend required faculty and staff meetings.
  • Cooperate with staff members in school-related activities and projects.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance and academic records.
  • Ensure a safe, orderly, and secure learning environment.
  • Participate in the annual performance review.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school personnel and students.
  • Positively represent the school/parish at events.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the principal.
Requirements and Preferences
  • Practicing Catholic (preferred, required for religion teachers).
  • Must meet compliance with safe environment requirements.
  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Valid state licensure for the grade/subject area (preferred, not required).
  • Completion of Catholic identity formation training.

Compensation

The Archdiocese of Chicago offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including competitive compensation and benefits. This position has an annual salary range of Lay - $37,000 - $67,000 and Religious - $34,000 - $61,000. Pay will be based on factors such as relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
