Qualifications

Job description

Position: Bus Driver

Department: Transportation

Location: District Service Facility (DSF)

Work Year: 9 months

Salary: Grade 9, Starting Hourly Rate: $22.89 - $23.93 (placement depends on experience and education)

Summary

The Bus Driver transports students, including those with special needs, between home and school and supports special programs and activities. Responsibilities include driving routes, inspecting buses, fueling, maintaining student safety, and completing required paperwork.

Essential Functions
  1. Drive buses along routes and special trips, ensuring timely pick-up and drop-off at designated stops and schools.
  2. Inspect buses for safety and proper operation.
  3. Fuel buses.
  4. Monitor and assist with student behavior, safety, and medical needs.
  5. Clean and sterilize buses.
  6. Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and students.
  7. Complete paperwork such as route changes, mileage reports, and student counts.
  8. Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional behavior in interactions.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED, plus two years of bus operation experience or successful completion of PXU’s Bus Driver Trainee Program.
  • Valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus endorsement, or from an adjacent state.
  • Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card within 90 days of employment.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificates, or obtain within 10 days of employment.

Physical Demands and Environment
