The Teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago. As a Catholic school teacher, you will serve as a role model and represent the Catholic Church through your actions and responsibilities. The Teacher is a ministerial employee, acting as both a Church representative and a messenger of its teachings to students.

The Teacher reports directly to the principal and must adhere to the policies of the Archdiocese of Chicago, the local school, and cooperate with staff to promote a Catholic educational environment. You will embody the ministry of Catholic education and uphold the religious doctrines of the Church at the school level.

General Responsibilities
  • Teach in accordance with Catholic doctrinal and moral teachings.
  • Act as a religious role model and representative of the Catholic Church.
  • Align teaching with the mission, philosophy, and policies of the Catholic school.
  • Complete required Catholic identity formation training and professional development.
  • Lead or participate in religious activities and instruction as directed.
  • Maintain communication with students, parents, colleagues, and the principal.
  • Participate in professional development and school meetings.
  • Perform teaching duties and maintain accurate records.
  • Ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Participate in performance reviews and maintain confidentiality.
  • Represent the school positively at events and in the community.
Requirements and Preferences
  • Practicing Catholic (preferred, especially for religion teachers).
  • Compliance with safe environment requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Valid state licensure (preferred).
  • Completion of Catholic identity formation training.

Applicants must submit transcripts, resume, teaching licensure (if applicable), and professional references. The salary range is $37,000 - $67,000 for lay teachers and $34,000 - $61,000 for religious teachers, based on experience and qualifications.
