POSITION OVERVIEW

As our Health and Physical Education Teacher, you'll play a vital role in developing students' physical literacy and healthy lifestyle habits. You'll create inclusive, engaging programs that build motor skills, promote teamwork, and establish the foundation for lifelong wellness. Our supportive administration ensures you have the resources and autonomy to create dynamic learning experiences for all students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive physical education and health curriculum aligned with Maine Learning Results
  • Create engaging, inclusive physical activities that accommodate diverse abilities and skill levels
  • Teach health education topics including nutrition, personal hygiene, and age-appropriate wellness concepts
  • Establish a positive, energetic learning environment that encourages participation and builds confidence
  • Assess student progress in physical skills, knowledge, and health concepts
  • Organize special events such as field days and wellness initiatives
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate movement into academic learning
  • Communicating with parents about physical education goals and student progress
  • Continuously improving professional skills and knowledge in health and physical education

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Maine Department of Education certification as a Teacher with endorsement in Physical Education/Health
  • Valid State of Maine Criminal History Records Check Approval
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate physical activities for elementary students
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm for promoting active, healthy lifestyles
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
