Description:

The classroom teacher's primary responsibility is to develop an instructional environment and use teaching strategies to achieve the district goals for students' cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development.

Job Summary:
  1. Plan instruction for each student, incorporating diagnosis, prescription, and evaluation.
  2. Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  3. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to students' maturity, interests, and abilities.
  4. Prepare for classes and show evidence of preparation upon request.
  5. Set and maintain standards of classroom behavior, enforce rules fairly, and develop classroom rules.
  6. Use a variety of instructional techniques and media suited to the physical environment and student needs.
  7. Implement the district's educational philosophy and goals.
  8. Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  9. Assess student progress regularly, provide reports, and communicate with parents as needed.
  10. Maintain accurate records as required by law and policy.
  11. Uphold school rules, regulations, and policies.
  12. Be available outside instructional hours for educational purposes when needed.
  13. Participate in meetings and serve on district committees to improve instruction and communication.
  14. Attend school-sponsored activities.
  15. Contribute to district decisions on budget, facilities, curriculum, and professional development.
  16. Maintain communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
  17. Supervise teacher aides, student teachers, and volunteers.
  18. Establish cooperative relationships with others.
  19. Participate in the teacher evaluation process.
  20. Pursue ongoing professional growth through reading, workshops, and coursework.
  21. Perform other assigned responsibilities, including those in the Core Expectations for Teachers.
Qualifications:
