About Our District
The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 25,000 students. More than half are students of color. Almost half come from low income households. Nearly one third are English Language Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in our schools. Madison schools are committed to making this district a place where every child thrives.
Essential Functions:
Work as a collaborative team member with staff and families
Instruct and monitor special education assistants and related staff
Assess the overall development of children, use appropriate formal and informal assessments to monitor progress, develop individual educational plans (IEPs), conduct reevaluations
Recruit and manage peer models
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Adhere to IDEA compliance (timelines and procedures) related to IEPs (annuals & review/revise) and re-evaluations
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and provide progress to parents and staff
Use of intentional instructional strategies to support EC student goal progress
Skilled in functional behavioral assessments and able to create behavior intervention plans utilizing positive behavioral interventions
Ability to work with school staff to effectively transition children to 4K and/or 5K
Knowledgeable of the needs of preschool children and best practices in early childhood education
Knowledgeable of Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards to inform the individual education program
Skilled in the assessment and use of assistive technology

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree. Official transcripts are required for formal employment.
Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license in Early Childhood Special Education.
Applications are considered on a rolling basis. MMSD will consider applicants who are fully licensed before considering applicants who are not yet licensed.
If you do not already have an active Wisconsin teaching license, you must obtain and maintain the necessary license(s) for the position. An application must be on file within 30 days of starting your employment with MMSD. Failure to do so will result in your contract being voided.
The district does not provide financial support for the continued education that is required to achieve the certification. The district does not select or endorse any particular certification program that leads to the required Wisconsin teaching license. An unlicensed candidate can be considered, but they must be hired by a school district in order to apply for a One-Year License with Stipulations with DPI.

Possess valid driver's license and have vehicle to travel to various sites for PD, home visits, etc.
