KIPP New Jersey is part of the nationally recognized “Knowledge Is Power Program” network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools dedicated to preparing students for success in college and in life. Since opening in 2002 in Newark’s South Ward, it has grown to serve students in grades K-12 across 17 schools in Newark and Camden, with over 90% qualifying for free or reduced meals.

Job Description
KIPP New Jersey offers a Teacher in Residence (TiR) program designed to provide aspiring teachers with hands-on experience and certification. As a TiR, you will work alongside experienced teachers to develop your skills while working towards your teaching certification.

Responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with an experienced lead teacher to plan lessons, teach, and reflect on instructional practices.
• Build positive relationships with students and families to foster a supportive school community.
• Provide small group instruction and assist with diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments.
• Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress.
• Participate actively in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Belief in every student’s potential and a commitment to educational equity.
• Interest in working with diverse student populations.
• Collaborative mindset and passion for student success.
• Ability to obtain New Jersey certification and pass the state licensure exam.
• Some experience working with children is preferred.

Certification Requirements

• Hold a valid NJ teaching certification or meet GPA requirements:
• Graduated after September 2016: GPA ≥ 3.0, or GPA between 2.75-3.0 with Praxis exam passing scores +10%.
• Graduated before September 2016: GPA ≥ 2.75.

Compensation and Benefits

KIPP NJ offers a salary range of $50,000 - $55,000, based on experience and certification. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, participation in the NJ State Pension Plan, optional 403b retirement plan with matching, transportation benefits, generous time off, parental leave, optional ancillary benefits, and a school-issued laptop.
