General Summary

At Movement PreK, Lead teachers provide developmentally appropriate, play-based learning that promotes students’ academic and social-emotional skills in a joyful and equitable environment. Lead teachers foster a sense of belonging and care for students and their families within their classroom community, aligning with the community culture of the school. They are responsible for the well-being, safety, and academic and social-emotional development of their students, with the goal of developing a love of learning. High-quality instruction, relationship building, emotional support, and strong classroom organization are essential. All PreK lead teachers report to the PreK Site Director at their campus.

All PreK Teachers are paired with a Teacher in Residence, supporting purposeful collaboration, responsiveness, and differentiated instruction. Fridays are half-days for professional development related to content, classroom management, and data analysis.

Instructional Responsiveness & Content Knowledge

  • Internalize and teach provided curriculum(s) with fidelity, differentiating instruction based on student data.
  • Develop and implement standards-based unit and lesson plans tailored to student needs.
  • Implement Creative Curriculum Preschool guided edition and Math small group lessons.
  • Conduct guided reading sessions.
  • Teach challenging lessons aligned with Common Core and NC Foundations for Early Learning.
  • Facilitate student assessments and monitor data to guide instruction and interventions.

Collaboration, Culture, and Mindset

  • Collaborate with co-teacher through modeling, feedback, task management, and accountability.
  • Maintain effective communication with colleagues and staff.
  • Participate actively in coaching, staff meetings, and professional development, demonstrating a growth mindset.
  • Create an inclusive environment for families with clear communication about student progress and school information.

Care of Students & Classroom Culture

  • Build a classroom culture that empowers students, affirms identities, and fosters belonging.
  • Apply classroom management and emotional support strategies aligned with policies.
  • Support character and social-emotional development.
  • Develop authentic relationships with students and families.
  • Maintain a positive, structured learning environment with routines and expectations.
  • Ensure the physical classroom is organized and tidy.

Other Information & Requirements

  • Teachers are on duty from 7:15 am to 4 pm on M/W/F and 7:14 am to 4:30 pm on T/Th, with instruction from 7:15 am to 3:30 pm.
  • Perform duties such as morning, lunch, coverage, and logistics as assigned.
  • Pass a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and potential drug testing.
  • Complete health screening, including TB testing.
  • Participate in school events, conferences, home visits, and other family engagement activities.
  • Manage reports, attendance, and other administrative tasks as assigned.

Education And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • NC Early Childhood Certification/Credential.
  • Commitment to working with diverse communities.
  • At least one year of licensed teaching experience in early childhood (PreK-3rd grade).
  • Familiarity with ECERS, G Suite, Outlook; comfortable with technology.
  • Punctual, reliable, organized, proactive, and communicative.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.
