25-26 Behavior and Academic Support Aide

The mission of Blackstone Valley Prep is to prepare every scholar to achieve their goals for college and the world beyond. BVP’s scholars will graduate empowered as learners, individuals, and community members to access opportunities and break down barriers.

Blackstone Valley Prep (BVP) Mayoral Academy is now hiring dedicated team members who are willing to do whatever it takes to put all scholars on a path to college. The primary role of a Behavior and Academic Support Assistant is to assist the teacher(s) (Gen. ed and/or SpEd) with daily behavior & academic support in the classroom and/or grade level. This staff member is an integral part of the educational team by providing the support teacher(s) need to maximize instructional time. This Behavior and Academic Support Assistant may be assigned as a Transitional Learning Center Assistant or an Instructional Aide.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain collaboration and professional communication with both general and special education teachers to ensure daily behavior and academic supports and to maximize instructional time
  • Maintain confidentiality of information concerning scholars and families
  • Monitor/support the use of special modifications or accommodations for scholars with disabilities
  • Work with scholars individually or in small groups to reinforce content initially introduced by the teacher(s)
  • Assist teacher(s) with both instructional and non-instructional related tasks
  • Maintain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention/CPI Certification, if applicable
  • Support school-wide needs as assigned and identified by the HOS

Additional duties when assigned as a TLC Assistant include the following:

  • Collect progress monitoring data to support with behavior intervention plans and academic interventions
  • Work with scholars in a 1:1 and/or small group setting to support behavior and academic needs
  • Support the TLC Program with daily classroom management and routines (individualized support/crisis plans, behavior charts, token economy system, etc.)
  • Support scholars with transition-related school activities (participating in enrichment, general education setting, lunch, recess, etc.)
  • Support the special education teacher with family communication, as needed.
  • When necessary, assist in the use of toilet facilities
  • Participates in TLC clinical team meetings, when appropriate

Additional duties when assigned as an Instructional Aide (IA) per a scholars IEP include the following:

  • Collect progress monitoring data to support with academic intervention plans and overall data collection
  • Provide instructional assistance to one or more scholars with an IEP in a small group or whole class setting
  • Model a precise and expressive use of language to effectively communicate with scholar, including expectations for learning, directions for activities, and explanations of content
  • Support scholar with assistive technology needs as identified in their IEP and assistive technology plan

In addition, Personal Care Attendants are expected to:

  • Work one-on-one with a specific scholar needing academic and/or behavioral support
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport for and with scholar
  • When necessary, assist in the use of toilet facilities
  • Manage scholar behavior to allow for high levels of engagement with the content
  • Model a precise and expressive use of language to effectively communicate with scholar, including expectations for learning, directions for activities, and explanations of content
  • Intellectually engage all scholars in learning through well-designed learning tasks and activities created with special educators that require complex thinking, and include appropriate scaffolding

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Associates degree in education or related field preferred but not required. All applicants must hold a high school Diploma or GED
  • Must be CPI certified or be willing to get certified within 1 year of employment (if applicable)
  • A commitment to working with a diverse student and staff population
  • Compensation Range: $36,000- $40,000 with benefits
