Position Description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is seeking Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) applicants. The department reserves the right to choose the most qualified candidate for each position and to assign Instructional Student Assistant to the courses that are appropriate for the department program and curriculum in any given semester. Due to staff and curriculum changes, courses offered may vary, and no guarantee of employment from semester to semester can be made.

Anticipated Appointment Dates: This position is opened until filled. If you have applied and no other positions are available, you will be notified.

Fall 2025: August 18, 2025 - December 22, 2025
Spring 2026: January 15, 2026 - May 22, 2026

Hours: 0-20 hours per week.

Job Duties may include the following, but will be dependent upon the specific course to which the instructional student assistant will be assigned, as well as upon the specific needs of the faculty member in charge of the course:

  • Provide instructional support to assigned instructor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department by grading papers in a variety of courses, and/or perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair in consultation with an appropriate faculty member.
  • Evaluate student assignments.
  • Maintain/submit student records (e.g. grades).

Qualifications:

  • Currently seeking senior status students in a Bachelor's degree program, or currently seeking successful admitted Master's degree students.
  • Successful grading experience at the undergraduate level and/or graduate level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Preferred Experience: Expertise in a closely related electrical and computer engineering discipline.

  • Curriculum Vita, or résumé. Your Curriculum Vita, or CV, is the academic equivalent of a résumé. It should contain your contact information, your employment and educational history, skills such as computer programming, familiarity with commonly used computer programs, as well as internships, awards, volunteer service, training and any other experience you have that is relevant to education.
  • Current unofficial transcripts from your undergraduate and graduate education. If you have attended more than one institution, please copy and combine these transcripts into one document.

Finalists may be asked for an interview.

Instruction Student Assistant additional information regarding assignment:

  • Salary: Each department has different salary scales. Please check with your department for your Base Salary. The Salary range for Instructional Student Assistants starts at $17.86 per hour.
  • Assignments: Assignments are made by Department Chair or Program Coordinator after consultation with the candidate.
  • Instructional Student Assistant positions are for matriculated students at Fresno State.
  • Students are limited to 20-hours of part-time work on campus.
