Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Plymouth is seeking a part-time Patient Safety Assistant to support our Emergency Department during evening shifts (3pm–11:30pm) with rotating weekends and holidays. The role involves direct observation, patient rounding, and rapid response to call lights under RN supervision, while maintaining safety and clear documentation.

Minimum requirements include a High School diploma or GED (or near completion of Health Sciences program) and BLS certification within 3

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) current certification required within 3 months of hire.
• Completes hospital-approved de-escalation training during orientation.

Responsibilities

• Direct observation of patient at arm's length.
• Participate in patient rounding as directed by RN.
• Ensure environmental safety for patients.
• Answer call lights and route issues to RN.
• Restock supplies and station precautions.
• Transport patients within the department as needed.
• Clean patient equipment per procedure.
• Complete patient safety sitter documentation.

# 24/E Patient Safety Assistant – Emergency DepartmentPlymouth, MA • Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Plymouth • Part-time • EveningShare job:Apply now**When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives.**24 hpw; 3pm – 11:30pm with rotating weekend and holidays**Job Description:****Duties/Responsibilities:** • Under the general management and supervision of the Nurse Manager and/or direction of the Registered Nurse, performs a variety of activities that include, but are not limited to, o Direct and continuous observation of patient at a distance no greater than arm’s length from patient. o Participates in patient rounding as and when directed by the Registered Nurse o Ensures environmental safety for patient o Answers call lights and ensures patient care issues are directed to the Registered Nurse o Restocking department supplies and precautions stations o Transports patients within the department and to in-hospital locations as needed. o Clean patient equipment following the designated process o Completes patient safety sitter competency o Completes all required documentation for patient care o Communicates any and all changes in patient behavior to the Registered Nurse o Involved as directed with quality improvement studies and activities specific to the unit. o Considers specific cultural beliefs and practices when caring for patients. Utilizes interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency o Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules and regulations as set forth by appropriate regulatory and governmental agencies and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policy and procedure.**Education/Experience Required:*** High School diploma/GED/or enrolled and near completion of High School Health Sciences program.**Registration/Certification:*** Basic Life Support current certification required within 3 months of hire* Completes Hospital approved de-escalation training during unit based orientation.**Physical/Environmental Requirements**This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.**Pay Range:**$17.69 – $28.22This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
