Job summary

Kamin Science Center is seeking a Power Plant Operator to oversee a high-pressure steam plant and provide steam for heat, hot water, and facility operations. The role requires operating boilers, monitoring chemistry, and performing routine maintenance in a 24/7 environment.

Must have a High School Diploma or GED and one year of boiler/steam plant experience, plus relevant licenses. Applicant must reside in Wisconsin and hold a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must have or be able to obtain required boiler/operator licenses.

Responsibilities

• Operate High-Pressure Steam Plant: Start, shift, operate/monitor and secure boilers and auxiliary equipment.
• Perform Daily Chemical Test Analyses of boiler water, RO and related systems.
• Regenerate Water Softener and De-alkalizer Resin and manage brine tanks and salt bags.
• Perform Planned Maintenance on boilers and equipment.
• Maintain nitrogen pressure on standby boilers and manage nitrogen cylinders.
• Monitor METASYS building automation and deep well pump systems; report alarms.
• Maintain a clean work environment and perform general facilities maintenance.
• Convey steam plant status to relief and maintain logs and records.
• Operate boilers, power tools, chemical test lab equipment, gauges and computers safely.
• Must lift up to 80 lbs and push/pull 200+ lbs.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

NIULPE 4th Class Stationary Engineer license OR ASOPE 2nd Class license OR City of Milwaukee High-Pressure Boiler Operator's permit
