Job summary

Black Box Network Services in San Francisco is seeking a Technician - Network to support 24/7 operations, rack and stack equipment, patch cables, and handle physical layer issues. You will install and troubleshoot Cisco and Avaya IP phones and assist with facilities tasks.

This position requires hands-on experience in data communications, ability to lift heavy objects, and strong communication to coordinate with customers and management. Full-time with potential for hire after 6 months.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in data communications
• Must have a basic knowledge of Cisco phones, switches and routers
• Must understand cable patching processes and procedures
• Must be able to install Avaya phones and troubleshoot Cisco/Avaya phones
• Must be able to lift heavy objects

Responsibilities

• Patch cabling between equipment and the customer’s network
• Install power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet
• Install, troubleshoot and de-install network equipment
• Install/swap out devices (phones, computers, cables, boards, edge routers, switches)
• Install, troubleshoot, and de-install Network General remote Sniffers
• Handle MAC requests within defined service levels
• Interface between customer’s associates and management
• Provide hardware break-fix services for network infrastructure
• Perform onsite testing for data, voice, website and security
• Perform backup testing to ensure systems connect to customer network
• Support carrier testing of circuits
• Assist with facilities efforts
• Power and UPS restoral
• Emergency cooling/restoration and fire-related tasks
• Inventory management activities and asset tracking
• Prepare and return damaged equipment
• Coordinate between locations and centralized project/operations/MAC management
