New Futures Network (NFN) is the specialist employer engagement team within HMPPS. We work with employers across England and Wales to increase employment opportunities for people in prison and on release, recognising that securing sustainable employment is one of the most important factors in reducing reoffending.
Working in partnership with prisons, probation, employers and government departments, NFN develops employer partnerships that create real job opportunities while supporting prisons to align employment and skills provision with labour market demand.
Our partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is a critical part of this work. New Futures Network (HMPPS) and DWP work closely to improve the employment support available to people in prison and on release, remove barriers to employment and ensure our respective services work effectively together to improve outcomes for prison leavers.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead key elements of NFN's strategic partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions, overseeing the development and delivery of joint initiatives designed to improve employment outcomes for prison leavers.
Reporting directly to NFNs Head of Innovation, you will manage selected aspects of the design, delivery and evaluation of cross-government initiatives and targeted campaigns, ensuring activity is aligned with organisational priorities and makes a measurable contribution to improving employment outcomes.
You will be a member of the joint NFN and DWP Operations Group Workstream (OGW), working alongside the NFN Head of Innovation to set direction, establish priorities and oversee delivery against agreed objectives. You will provide assurance on progress to the Joint Operations Group and NFN Senior Management Team, identifying risks, resolving issues and ensuring commitments translate into effective operational delivery.
A key focus of the role will be identifying barriers affecting prison leavers and the staff supporting them, including prison work coaches and working across organisational boundaries to develop practical solutions. You will need to combine strong programme and change management skills with an ability to understand operational challenges, bring together different perspectives and turn strategic priorities into tangible improvements.
The role requires significant engagement with senior stakeholders across DWP and HMPPS. You will build effective relationships, influence decision-making and secure commitment to shared priorities, while ensuring that joint activity is supported by clear governance, effective communications and a strong focus on outcomes.
The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.
For nationally advertised roles, the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed on the completion of pre-employment checks.
Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.
