Job summary

Books-A-Million in Matthews, NC seeks a Buyback Manager to train and lead the Buyback team, support the management team as Manager On Duty, and ensure daily operations align with merchandising standards and company policies.

The role requires strong product knowledge, inventory awareness, and the ability to supervise audits, deposits, and staffing. You will drive customer service, sales, and e-commerce fulfillment while upholding store security.

Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience required; buying experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about product, with ability to research market trends.
  • Successful completion of all background screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Buyback team and ensure day-to-day Buyback operations are aligned with company policies.
  • Operates the store as Manager On Duty with the management team.
  • Maintain security and integrity of the store; manage inventory and merchandising in Buyback.
  • Oversee merchandising standards and ensure efficient processing and stocking of Buyback items.
  • Assist in staffing Buyback positions and develop Buyers.
  • Review buying reports for compliance with policies and standards.
  • Audit Buyback processes daily to ensure adherence to procedures.

Job Description The Buyback Manager trains, develops, and holds accountable the Buyback team in ensuring the ongoing success of the Buyback department and its day-to-day operation. The Buyback Manager will support the management team on the day-to-day operation of the store as a Manager On-Duty in conjunction with the management team members to maximize sales and customer service and oversees the execution of the Merchandising plan to maintain compliance and store standards.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Maximizes profits and customer service by leading assigned category team and operating the store in adherence to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Operates the store as the Manager On Duty in conjunction with the management team.
  • Maintains the physical security of the store they are assigned, and in doing so is a key-holding member of management.
  • Maintains category merchandising and cleanliness and ensures operational efficiency.
  • Maintains used category cadencing and stock levels within the monthly budget.
  • Drops off bank deposit and picks up change order as needed.
  • Consults with the General Manager on associate performance.
  • Demonstrates product knowledge and expertise in Buyback.
  • Awareness of store inventory and trends in Buyback.
  • Maintains merchandising standards in Buyback to company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures efficient evaluation, processing, and/or merchandising of product.
  • Assists management team with staffing Buyback positions, in addition leads the Management with the training and development of Buyers.
  • Reviews buying reports for all buyers to ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Audits buyback each day to ensure all policies and procedures are being followed. This includes ensuring audits are completed when they are not present.
  • Ensures all No Retail product is moved to the back room daily.
  • Creates & maintains features for area, including but not limited to the glass case displays.
  • Drives E-Commerce uploads and fulfilment by ensuring that all team members are uploading great items and fulfilling orders within the expected time.
  • Successfully promotes all Company initiatives when interacting with customers.
  • Provides the highest level of customer service to each customer.
  • Ensures customers receive a fast and friendly purchasing experience.
  • Ensures all Buyers are researching and inputting products and customer information into the system according to Company procedure.
  • Leads the team in ensuring that they are providing quotes to customers for purchase of product and authorizes the intake of product into store inventory.
  • Monitors and maintains assigned area’s cleanliness, providing a clean workplace which includes dusting, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and assisting in the general maintenance of the building.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Scheduling Requirements
  • All managers must have open availability and be able to work opening shifts, closing shifts, or other shifts as needed, OR have availability approved by District Manager if open availability is not possible.
  • All managers work at least 32 hours per week and up to 40 hours a week.
