Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is offering a Welding Engineer Internship designed to give students hands-on exposure to welding production and development activities. Under a mentor, you will complete a project, perform welding tests, and apply classroom learning to real-world welding challenges.

The program covers data analysis, materials research, process improvements, and manufacturing support, with opportunities to work with robotic welding solutions and cobots in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a 4-year or advanced degree in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Overall GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Preference for prior co-op or internship experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support welding production and development activities under mentor guidance.
  • Conduct welding test performance and data analysis.
  • Assist with materials research, process improvements and manufacturing support.
  • Contribute to robot and cobot welding solutions and automation.

Under the guidance of a mentor, interns are given a meaningful work experience, a project assignment to complete, and the opportunity to apply classroom education to real work situations.Additional responsibilities may include welding test performance and data analysis, materials research and analysis, manufacturing support, performance, cost, serviceability, and manufacturability. Welding process may include GTAW, GMAW, SAW, FCAW welding structurally and on pipe.
