Job summary

The Utah Conservation Corps is an AmeriCorps program seeking a Crew Leader for a full-time field assignment across Utah. You will lead conservation projects, mentor members, and work in diverse backcountry and front-country locations.

This position comes with an education award-eligible service, living allowance, and formal training through AmeriCorps. Program runs 02/08/2027–11/22/2027, with applications accepted 09/22/2026 to 01/08/2027.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Outdoor fieldwork experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team and adapt to varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead field crews on conservation projects across varying terrain.
  • Coordinate trail work, habitat restoration, and fencing tasks.
  • Ensure safety protocols and risk management during field operations.
  • Support training and mentoring of AmeriCorps members.
  • Document project progress and outcomes for reporting.

Job description

The Utah Conservation Corps (UCC) is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to developing the conservation leaders of tomorrow. We engage in projects throughout the state and region that address goals relating to environmental conservation, leadership, and education while providing hands‑on training and skills to members as we help build the next generation of America’s workforce.

Member Duties

Crews serve on projects in a variety of locations. Field projects may be backcountry (hiking into the project site, camping away from a vehicle) or front country (driving to the project site daily, camping at the vehicle, or non camp lodging). Projects may be urban (located in a city or town) or rural (located in national parks, forests, etc. with limited access to facilities and services). Project work will vary due to seasonality and environmental safety concerns. Projects may include (but are not limited to):

  • National disaster response efforts
  • Trail construction and maintenance
  • Invasive species management, including herbicide application
  • Habitat restoration
  • Fence installation/repair/removal
  • Land management inventory and mapping
  • Recreational facilities maintenance and construction
  • Recreation signage repair
  • Community service
