Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in San Diego is seeking an entry-level engineer for the New Product Introduction/Technology Engineering Rotation Program.

You will build technical foundations through a sequence of rotations in design, combustion, heat transfer, and performance to develop broad engineering expertise. The program leads to long-term placements within NPI/Tech Engineering, with relocation to San Diego and onsite work five days a week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, combustion, or related engineering.
• GPA 2.8/4.0.
• 0–3 years of relevant experience.
• Willing to relocate to San Diego, CA.
• Engineering fundamentals knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Participate in multiple four- to six-month rotations across technical departments.
• Enter long-term assignments in NPI/Tech Engineering after rotations.

2027 New Product Introduction/Technology- Entry Level Engineer Rotation

This position is part of our New Product Introduction/Technology Engineering Rotation Program. The TMP Engineer Rotation Program provides the foundation for the future success of Solar Turbines engineers and of the organization. The purpose of the program is to start the development and training of the next generation of highly capable and highly competent engineers through a coordinated engineering rotation program.

Program Goals

• Begin building technical foundation
• Provide challenging assignments
• Create broad exposure to Solar Turbines
• Acquire gas turbine product knowledge
• Develop enterprise perspective
• Begin network building
• Build pride and engagement
• Preparation for a challenging and rewarding engineering career

Each program consists of multiple Four to Six-month Rotations in departments such as:

• Mechanical Design
• Mechanical Design Methods
• Combustion
• Heat Transfer
• Compressor Aero
• Turbine Aero
• Materials & Processes
• Development Test
• Aftermarket Engineering
• Performance
• Customer Services

At the end of the rotation program, long term assignments are given for placement in one of the NPI/Tech Engineering departments.

Minimum Qualifications

• In the process of obtaining or have obtained a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Aerospace, Combustion, or other related Engineering discipline.
• Overall GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
• 0-3 years of relevant experience.
• Previous Internship and/or relevant work experience.
• Technical knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
• Must be able and willing to relocate to San Diego, CA

• High energy level and sense of urgency.
• Good business / technical judgment.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities for a variety of tasks.
• Previous co-op or Internship experience.
• Problem solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Summary Pay Range

$72,360.00 - $108,540.00
