The ACLU of New Hampshire is seeking a full-time Summer Intern for the Legal Department for 2027. The internship runs ten weeks, averaging 35 hours per week, and offers exposure to criminal justice, voting, immigrants’ rights, due process, and privacy.

As part of the Legal Intern team, you will conduct legal research, draft memoranda and briefs, interview clients, and help investigate facts to support case development and non-litigation advocacy.

Qualifications

  • Law student who will have completed at least one year of law school before the internship commences.
  • Self-motivated and can take the initiative, manage a variety of tasks, and see projects through to completion in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
  • Receptive to feedback, enthusiastic about learning and self-improvement, and eager to incorporate feedback into future work.
  • Excellent foundation in legal research, including the judgment to discern what cases are relevant to a particular research question and thoroughness in covering the question asked.
  • Excellent legal writing skills, including the ability to present ideas in a clear and organized manner and to write a memo that addresses what you have learned through research.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the office, using an approach that values all individuals and respect differences.

Job description

The ACLU of New Hampshire (ACLU-NH) is seeking a full-time Summer Intern for the Legal Department for 2027. This is a full-time position that works 35 hours per week, and this internship will last ten weeks.

Position Overview

The legal intern will be exposed to, and participate in, the process of developing and pursuing legal cases. The issue areas may include but not limited to criminal justice, voting, immigrants’ rights, due process, and privacy.

The Legal Intern’s Duties Will Include
  • Conducting legal research for current and potential cases and non-litigation advocacy projects;
  • Drafting memoranda, affidavits, and briefs;
  • Interviewing potential and current clients;
  • Investigating the facts of specific cases; and
  • Other duties as needed.

Compensation

This internship will be paid an hourly rate of $17.50 per hour. However, the legal intern may receive academic credits instead of the payment.
