Summary

As aGeneration Engineering Intern, you’ll gain hands‑on, project‑based experience designed to immerse you in real‑world engineering challenges within the power generation industry. Working alongside experienced engineers, you’ll contribute to initiatives that support operational efficiency, system reliability, and sustainability across non‑nuclear generation facilities.

Potential Projects and Experiences

  • Analyze engineering data and help identify opportunities to improve equipment performance and operational outcomes.
  • Apply engineering principles to solve practical challenges in a power generation environment.
  • Visit and work at generation sites to gain a deeper understanding of power plant operations and engineering systems.
  • Engage with cross‑functional teams to support initiatives.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in engineering.
  • Demonstrated academic achievement and commitment to learning and professional growth.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others and contribute to team‑based projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Preferred: GPA of 3.0 or higher.

This paid, temporary full‑time internship spans 10 weeks during the summer. Interns receive mentorship, professional development, opportunities for site visits, networking, and more.

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3.0 GPA or higher.
Major Accountabilities
  1. Performs simple to intermediate analysis and designs. May assist in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations and studies.
  2. Assists in research, business documentation, studies or technical reviews. Conducts analyses, investigations, verifications and summarizes results or findings in written reports or oral presentations.
  3. Utilizes internal resources to learn business/engineering operations/functions and apply learning in completion of work assignments.
  4. Coordinates efforts with other disciplines, and/or departments in achieving project goals and task assignments.
  5. Performs other related duties as required.

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre‑employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.

Onsite:Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility. Depending on the responsibilities of the role, this may include, but is not limited to, working at a power plant, job site, or in the community.

  • Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
