Job summary

Duquesne Light Company, headquartered in downtown Pittsburgh, offers a 12-week paid summer internship in External Affairs & Regulatory Law. The hybrid program is based in Pittsburgh with potential travel to Harrisburg, designed for degree-seeking students in Political Science or Public Policy.

You will support policy research, attend legislative meetings, and help engage clean energy stakeholders and officials.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be currently enrolled in a BS or MS program in Political Science, Public Policy or a related field.
• Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student enrolled in an accredited college or university.
• Must have completed sophomore year of studies.
• Must be in good academic standing.
• Willingness to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.
• Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricular activities.

Responsibilities

• Policy research — drafting memos and summaries on pressing issues and legislation.
• Participating in meetings with legislators and/or regulatory agency staff.
• Supporting outreach to clean energy stakeholders and elected officials.

2027 Program Information

Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on, meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration. Duquesne Light's internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines.

• Internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid, and run for 12 weeks (May-August).
• Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLH's Hybrid Work Model (described below).
• Candidates must be full-time, degree‑seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies.
• Candidates must be in good academic standing.
• Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.
• Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricular activities.
• Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills.

Overall Purpose:

The External Affairs & Regulatory Law intern would support both Government Affairs and Regulatory Policy work, including but not limited to:

• policy research - drafting memos and summaries on pressing issues and legislation,
• participating in meetings with legislators and/or regulatory agency staff, and
• supporting outreach to clean energy stakeholders and elected officials.

Location:

Hybrid (see below), downtown Pittsburgh, PA (may involve a trip to Harrisburg).

Education/Experience:

• Applicants must be currently enrolled in a BS or MS program in Political Science, Public Policy or a related field.

Skills and Abilities Utilized in this Role Include:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.

Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
